Benefits for business and industry
Business and industry have told us that they need a workforce that is literate, numerate and skilled. The Youth Guarantee, along with other initiatives like National Standards, the qualifications reforms, and the emphasis on student engagement and positive behaviour will also contribute towards this.
Youth Guarantee initiatives are about improving the transition from school to work, by providing a wider range of learning opportunities, making better use of the education network, and creating clear pathways from school to work and study.
Business and industry have more opportunities to connect with the education system through the vocational pathways project. The vocational pathways are being developed by a partnership between employers and industry, led by Industry Training Organisations. The pathways will improve the connection between the skills and knowledge students are gaining and what is valued and required by employers. They will also help students know what they need to achieve if they have an interest in working in particular areas, and inform students about subjects and standards they should choose if they wish to pursue further study or careers in these areas.
