The School Network Upgrade Project (SNUP)

The School Network Upgrade Project (SNUP) involves progressively upgrading internal data and electrical infrastructure in state and state-integrated schools. For more information, please visit the SNUP page.

Establishing a managed network for schools

The Ministry is establishing an online, managed network for schools which will run over the ultra-fast broadband network infrastructure currently being rolled out across New Zealand. For more information and FAQs please visit A managed network for schools

National Education Network (NEN) trial extension

A National Education Network (NEN) trial, underway since 2008, has given 100 schools high-speed access to education content and services. The purpose of the trial is to investigate issues and opportunities for schools accessing online content and services over a dedicated network.

For more information, please visit the National Education Network trial extension page.

Information and Communications Technology Professional Development (ICTPD)

Around 60 per cent of schools have completed the Ministry’s Information and Communications Technology Professional Development (ICT PD) programme and around 15 per cent of schools are involved in any one year. The Ministry is currently looking at how we can further support the development of e-learning capability in all schools.

Laptops for Teachers and Principals (TELA)

Principals and teachers are supplied with laptops under the Ministry’s TELA Laptops scheme (TELA).
