Choosing a secondary school

Choosing a secondary school is an important decision which can have a big impact on your child’s happiness and wellbeing, as well as affecting how they do at school. So it’s worth you and your son or daughter taking time together to look at possible schools and explore all the options available.

Many secondary schools will advertise open days and parents evening for you to find out more about their school. Secondary schools encourage you to also arrange your own meeting with the school if you are not able to attend these events.

Some secondary schools will have an enrolment scheme that guarantees enrolment to students living in the area defined as the school's home zone. If you have any questions about meeting the criteria you should raise this with the school.

More information about secondary school is available in the Your teen section.
