What to bring when you enrol your child

Here we offer advice on what you'll need to bring when you enrol your child in an ECE service.

You will need:

  • proof of your child’s age, such as birth certificate or passport
  • immunisation certificates
  • medical information such as allergies and any existing medical conditions
  • any legal documents such as access or custody agreements
  • your contact details during the day and emergency contacts if you can’t be reached
  • your doctor’s contact details

Ask the ECE service for a list of what additional equipment you need to provide when your child attends the service, such as:

  • nappies
  • food and drink
  • bedding

Also check your service’s policy about sunhats and sunscreen.

Food and drink requirements

Services have different policies and practices when it comes to food and drink – you will need to check this before your child starts. Some provide all meals and snacks and at others you will need to provide your child with a packed lunch and/or snacks.

If your child has particular nutritional or cultural food requirements or if they have food allergies, you will need to let the teachers know. Services have policies on what food you can or can’t bring into the service.

Most services have policies that promote healthy food and nutrition - more information can be found in the Food and Nutrition for Healthy Confident Kids guidelines.
