About Attention Deficit Disorder

Information for teachers who support students with ADD/ADHD.

Extending Support Networks

The strategies outlined in this resource provide an important base for teaching students with ADD/ADHD. The network of support may need to be extended for some students and those directly involved with them.

Team approaches are most effective. The core team should be the teacher, parents/caregivers and, where appropriate, the student. The support of senior colleagues and management within the school setting is likely to open up further access to skills, experiences, information and resources. These include three Special Education 2000 initiatives for students with special education learning and behaviour needs:

Special Education Grant (SEG) provided directly to schools for students with learning and behaviour needs

Resource Teachers: Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) working within clusters of schools to support teachers and their students with learning and behaviour needs

Behaviour Education Support Teams (BEST) working with students with severe behavioural challenges and needs. This service is accessed through principal referral to Special Education.
