ORRS Applications

What to include
The application must provide specific information about:
a) The child/student's current achievements - what they can do in relation to the strands of Te Whaariki and/or the New Zealand Curriculum achievement objectives.
b) How the child/student learns: - described for young children as learning dispositions and for school students as Essential Skills in the New Zealand Curriculum.
c) The teaching strategies required for the child/student to maintain existing knowledge and to learn new skills.
d) The individualised specialist programmes the child/student has participated in and the child/student's response to those programmes.
The application may include the following information, depending on the child/student's circumstances:
a) For recent immigrants, information about the child/student's
- history of education prior to arrival in New Zealand
- length of time in New Zealand
- learning achievements assessed using their first language
- understanding and use of English.
b) For children/students where English is not their first language
- learning achievements assessed using their first language
- understanding and use of English.
c) For students with a hearing impairment (Criterion 2.1, 6 or 9.2), current audiograms showing unaided and aided hearing, and an audiology report if available.
d) For students with vision impairment (Criterion 6 or 9.3), current best-corrected vision, and an ophthalmologist's or other vision specialist's report.
e) For students with a medical condition that directly affects their educational needs, a paediatrician's or other medical specialist's report. If no report is available, record the date of diagnosis and the name of the specialist who identified the condition.
N.B. A signed and dated specialist's report attached to the application will be treated as a consenting signature for Part D of the form.
