Informed Consent Guidelines

There are key requirements for Ministry of Education, Special Education practitioners to follow to ensure that they are meeting legal and ethical requirements for informed consent, and these are fully explained in the Informed Consent Guidelines.

Informed consent is an integral aspect of service provision and is basic to the individual's freedom, rights and self-determination. It is also an ethical and legal requirement under the codes of ethics of various professional bodies, the Health and Disability Act (1994), and Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights (1996). The Ministry of Education, Special Education Informed Consent Guidelines are about informed consent under the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights.
