Individual Education Programme (IEP) Guidelines
These guidelines are for schools, parents and specialists who support students with special education needs. They are intended to assist with planning for any special education students, whatever their need.
Reviewing and Evaluation
There are two stages where careful evaluation is necessary:
- Before the plan is implemented.
A checklist will enable the team to evaluate the written plan to ensure it is completed in a way that will lead to an appropriate and effective programme. An example is given in the Photocopy Masters section.
- At the review of the IEP
There are three important and interrelated aspects in the evaluation of an IEP:
- Has the student achieved the learning outcomes?
- Has the programme been appropriate in meeting the learning needs of the student?
- How has the IEP process contributed to the outcomes?
Before the IEP review date all those involved need to consider these three questions and collect the necessary assessment data to share at the meeting. A summary of this information should be recorded on the plan. This information will be essential for the planning of the next IEP, both to establish the learning outcomes for the student and to select effective and appropriate curriculum adaptations, teaching strategies, resources and support.
