Banking Staffing FAQs Year End

A collection of FAQs relating to to the time period for balancing the usage from the previous year-end position.

1) What does the time extension to 31 March mean?

In 2004 the Minister of Education announced a change to Banking Staffing to allow schools a time period for balancing their staffing usage from the previous year-end position.

Effective from the 2005 year, the Ministry of Education extended the time for balancing the year-end staffing usage to address concerns that schools lost the opportunity to use their full staffing entitlements because of the summer holiday period.

Banking staffing works on a fortnightly pay-period by pay-period basis and the nearest pay-period to 31 March in each year is pay-period _26. The time period for balancing schools’ staffing usage is pay-periods _23 to _26 following the banking staffing year that ends with pay-period _22.

2006 – time period for balancing

The 2006 banking staffing year ended with pay-period 1522 on 30 January 2007. Schools have until pay-period 1526 (payday 28 March 2007) to balance their staffing usage for 2006.

Schools that have underused their 2006 staffing as at pay-period 1522 can use their underused staffing balance by operating above their entitlement during pay-periods 1523 to 1526.

Schools that have overused their 2006 staffing as at pay-period 1522 can reduce their overused staffing balance by operating below their entitlement during pay-periods 1523 to 1526.
