Review of Schools' Operational Funding

Former Education Minister, Steve Maharey, released the Schools’ Operational Funding Review on 19 December 2006.

The Review of Schools' Operational Funding was commissioned by the Government in November 2005, to consider:

  • the principles and goals underpinning schools' operational funding (including what the government expects to achieve through schools' operational funding, and what conditions schools' operational funding should adhere to)
  • approaches to better modelling or understanding costs and resourcing pressures on schools
  • analysis of best practice school financial management for producing the best teaching and learning outcomes, and how to disseminate this information on best practice to schools, and
  • how the resourcing mechanisms used by the Ministry of Education can be made more effective for schools, and how they could be used to improve teaching and learning outcomes and more clearly to signal and encourage educational priorities and innovation.

A summary of the final report will be mailed to all schools in the final week of December 2006.

The final report of the Review, and a summary version, can be downloaded below.
