Heating

Research and findings on impacts of heating insulation in the learning environment.

Heating

1. The Ministry has a design brief for heating and ventilation systems published in 1998. It is referred to in our Health and Safety Code of practice. The code gives temperature levels for various teaching spaces, para 16. These are consistent with the UK DES guidelines.

2. Michael Donn, School of Architecture, Victoria University, Wellington in an article in BRANZ magazine Build (April/May 2003) raised questions on how much heat is needed in schools and whether heaters are needed in schools. He points out that heat is generated by lighting and students themselves and suggests solutions to too much heating might be solar driven.
