Clinics No Longer Needed

If the clinic is not needed by the DHB, the building will continue to count towards the school’s School Property Guide (SPG) entitlement like any other school building and will continue to attract operational funding.

If the clinic is surplus to SPG entitlement, the board can apply to dispose of it through the Ministry’s disposal processes.

Any disposal or decommissioning of a clinic must be supported by a rationalisation plan agreed between the Ministry and board in the context of 10YPP/5YA planning. We would not support demolition of the clinic in order to create a SPG deficiency, ie: results in the Ministry paying for the same accommodation twice.

A minute from a board meeting minute sent to the local Ministry office will start the disposal process. Demolition is another option if disposal is not practicable.

Section 3.8 of the Property Management Handbook for information about disposing of or demolishing the clinic.
