Consultation and Agreement with DHBs
Some schools were consulted in the DHBs’ pre-Business Case planning, but some may not have been contacted yet. DHBs have been asked to provide local ministry offices with a list of the affected schools and the plans for each school. DHBs can also be contacted directly to find out what is proposed - contact information is provided at the bottom of this page.
The postal address for each DHB is also available on the Ministry of Health’s website.
Boards of trustees do not have to agree with what the DHB is proposing for their clinics but should keep in mind the objective behind this review, which is to improve oral health care for their students and their community.
The board cannot refuse to allow the DHB to continue operating a clinic on the school site because they believe they need the clinic building for other school purposes. Schools with a space deficiency can apply for funding under the ministry’s School Property Guide (SPG) deficiency programme.
On the other hand it is important for boards to consider the wider implications where a new clinic or mobile clinic pad is proposed in terms of space and long term development at their school – boards should talk to the local ministry office if a new clinic is proposed.
