Interim Report for Consultation
Proposals for Consultation
The Working Group has been meeting on a regular basis since its establishment last year. In March 2009 it carried out consultation with Bush District communities and education stakeholders about the strengths and issues of education at present (Round 1 consultation). It has also sought and compiled relevant additional information.
Over the course of its meetings the group has considered the consultation's findings and discussed the issues in depth. It has prepared an interim report as a summary of its findings. The report presents the group’s proposals and seeks feedback about them from all members of the Bush community.

Policies and Legislation
The Education Act 1989 allows for a range of School Structures and Governance Options.
There are legal processes to change the structure of schooling in an area and these include processes for the closure, merger, change of class and establishment of schools. The document Comparison of the Implications Between Merger and Closure [Word; 35kb] details aspects of these processes.
When a school closes or mergers funding is generated to support the students transition to their new school. This funding is called Education Development Initiative (EDI) funding. It is to be used on projects that raise student achievement in the students’ new school.
Where there are two or more schools remaining after a schooling reorganisation there is also Joint Schools Initiative Funding (JSIF) allocated to the remaining schools. This funding is to be used on join projects that raise education in the area.
