Community Initiated Education Planning (CIEP) Process
Learn more about the Community Initiated Education Planning (CIEP) process.
What is the CIEP process?
From time to time, communities choose to discuss education provision in their area. When this happens it is important that everyone in the community has an opportunity to participate.
The beginnings of community initiated planning are usually informal and at many levels. It may involve parents, staff or board conversations, it may stem from principals discussing shared projects, or it may be that other interested parties in the community are discussing education.
The Ministry of Education will only work with a community in a CIEP process following conversations with a wide variety of parties and an assurance that they will support the need to discuss strengthening education provision in their area.
How it works
CIEP is a framework that has been developed to enable communities to:
- discuss future education in the area
- develop of a shared vision
- plan towards strengthening education to achieve that vision.
As part of the CIEP process, we offer communities an independent facilitator to work with all parties:
- to clarifying the need for change;
- design a consultation process; and
- consult with all relevant people.
Each of these steps is done with a view to develop a shared vision. During this process the ministry can also help with data and expertise, along with advice, guidance and ideas to help strengthen educational provision in your area.
