ESOL Funding Assessment Guidelines

This resource has been developed to help teachers use the ESOL Assessment Form (ESOL/AF) to determine whether students from diverse language backgrounds who are learning English as an additional language are eligible for ESOL funding support. These guidelines explain some methods of assessing these students and define the key concept of "cohort". They provide examples of initial assessment and suggest processes and tasks to use when assessing students against the ESOL criteria in four language modes - listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
