Part Four - Performance

4.1    Performance Review

4.1.1 The board will review, either generally or in respect of any particular matter, the performance of the principal in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

4.1.2 The board shall consult the principal on the process and criteria to be used to review the principal's general performance. The criteria shall also include the professional standards for principals as prescribed from time to time by the Secretary for Education.

4.1.3 The process and criteria to be used to review the principal's general performance shall be recorded in writing and shall be called the Performance Agreement.  A copy of the Performance Agreement shall be given to the principal with another retained by the board. 

4.1.4 The process that is used to review the principal’s general performance shall take into account the duties and responsibilities of the principal under this agreement, any particular objectives set by the principal and the board, the nature and priority of such objectives, and any other quantitative and qualitative performance indicators applying to the principal’s work.

4.1.5 The decision of the board in relation to the contents of any performance agreement for any year will be final, but the principal shall have the right to attach written comments to the performance agreement if the principal considers the performance agreement to be unreasonable.

4.1.6 The principal will assist the board to conduct any review under this clause and in particular will give to the board such information as the board requires to carry out the review.
