Part 4 - Performance

4.1 Performance Review

4.1.1 The Board will review the performance of the Principal in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

4.1.2 The Board shall prepare an annual performance agreement with the Principal that details:

(a) The objectives of the Principal's position for that year; and

(b) The process and criteria by which the Principal's performance is to be assessed for that year.  From 1999, the criteria for all principals shall include the professional standards for principals as prescribed from time to time by the Secretary for Education;

(c) Any training or professional development to be made available to the Principal during that year.

4.1.3 Every endeavour shall be made by the Board and the Principal to arrive at a performance agreement that is acceptable to both of them.  The Board shall consult with the Principal as to the contents of the performance agreement and the Principal's views shall be considered prior to the Board finalising the performance agreement.  Where agreement has not proved to be possible the decision of the Board shall be final.

4.1.4 The Principal will co-operate with the Board during all stages of the performance review process and will provide the Board with such information as the Board may properly require to carry out any review of the Principal's performance.

4.2 First Time Principals

4.2.1 From January 2008, first time principals employed in a U1 to U2 grade area school shall receive 10 days development release time over an 18 month period to be used for professional learning opportunities designed to improve their management and professional learning leadership capability.
