Special education and ENROL
What is the special
education information in ENROL?
In January 2009 we introduced special education flags in ENROL.
These flags can be found below the Student Details, but only the
flags that are set are visible. They indicate if a student is
entitled to special needs support.

Agreement to attend primary over age 14
|
the student is allowed to be enrolled in a primary school
over the age of 14

Agreement to attend school over age 19
|
the student is counted as a regular student until the end
of the year in which they turn 21

|
Enrolment in a special school
|
allows the student to enrol in a special school
|
|
Special education service
|
student is getting specialist support from the Ministry of
Education
|
When a student with one or more special education flags enrols at
a school, the school will be notified of the student’s special
need entitlement and the Ministry will be notified of the
enrolment.

Who sets the special education
flags?
Staff from the Special Education section of the Ministry of
Education set the special education flags.
I received an email informing me
that a student at my school has a flag: what do I need to do?
No action is required from you. These flags are for your
information only.
How do I know if one of my
students is entitled to special education support?
Students entitled to special education support have a flag in
ENROL. When one of these students enrols at your school you will
receive an automatic email.
Why do students enrolled at a
special school have no Current Year Level?
The Current Year Level (CYL) does not always make sense for
students at special echools. Therefore the Entry Year Level as
well as the Leaving Year Level are not required.
ENROL assigns a CYL based on the student’s age. That CYL will
show only on the reports.
