Notice of Initiation of Bargaining School Caretakers, Cleaners and Canteen Workers

On 7 August 2007 the Service and Food Workers' Union formally notified the Ministry of Education that they intend to seek a new collective agreement covering every employee who is employed by an employer either as a caretaker, cleaner or canteen employee at a school or community learning centre.

For the purposes of this notice, "employer" means a board of trustees or a Commissioner, as appropriate, of a state or state integrated school.

The intended parties to the collective agreement will be the Service and Food Workers' Union and the Secretary for Education acting under delegation from the State Services Commissioner issued in accordance with the State Sector Act 1988. The agreement sought would bind all employers and all members of the Service and Food Workers' Union coming within the coverage of this proposed collective agreement.
