This circular is about: Initiation of bargaining for the Support Staff in Schools' Collective Agreement; and Kaiarahi i te Reo, Assistants to Teachers of Students with Severe Disabilities and Special Education Assistants' Collective Agreement.
The action required is: To note the contents of this circular and advise those who are party to either of the above collective agreements of the initiation of bargaining.
It is intended for: Board of trustees chairpersons and principals of all state and integrated schools.

Introduction
The New Zealand Educational Institute - Te Riu Roa has this week formally initiated bargaining for two new collective agreements:
- Support Staff in Schools' Collective Agreement; and
- Kaiarahi i te Reo, Assistants to Teachers of Students with Severe Disabilities and Special Education Assistants' Collective Agreement.
Boards are required to bring this to the attention of all employees covered by either of these collective agreements, whether or not members of a Union party to the collective agreement, as soon as possible using the notice of initiation of bargaining attached to this circular.
Attached are the notices which should be made available to all employees who could be potentially covered by these negotiations.Current Status

Notice of Initiation of Bargaining
For the purposes of this notice, "employer" means every board of trustees in a state or integrated primary, secondary or composite school, attached community learning centre, or commissioner as appropriate, as defined in the Education Act 1989.
The intended parties to the collective agreement will be the New Zealand Educational Institute - Te Riu Roa, the Service and Food Workers' Union and the Secretary for Education acting under the delegation from the State Services Commissioner issued in accordance with the State Sector Act 1988. The agreement sought will bind all boards of trustees and all members of the New Zealand Educational Institute - Te Riu Roa and the Service and Food Workers' Union coming within the coverage of the proposed collective agreement as outlined above.
