Standards for Network Upgrades

As with other building standards, it is important to use recognised standards for cabling and switches to achieve a consistent acceptable standard enabling future network expansion.

These standards have been developed in consultation with sector, Ministry and vendor stakeholders. They cover policy issues relating specifically to schools, such as suggested number of data outlets per class, in addition to technical standards based on current Australasian cabling standards.

Any new cabling or switches purchased should meet the quality identified in the standard.

The standards are available for downloading at the bottom of this page. The detailed standards documents (PDFs) are primarily for use by technical personnel involved in design and installation of school networks. Overviews of each standard have been produced for schools giving a summary of the key points from the standards documents (Word documents).
