Software for schools

The Ministry of Education offers schools a selection of computer operating systems, office productivity, anti-virus and web filtering software at no charge. New Zealand state and state-integrated primary and secondary schools are entitled to the software.

Anti-virus software

The Ministry has an agreement with Symantec to provide anti-virus software to schools, until 31 December 2013. For more information or to access software upgrades, go to Antivirus FAQs on Microsoft Schools Agreement Site.

Microsoft software

The Ministry has software licensing and support arrangements with Microsoft through to 31 December 2013. For more information or to order products, please visit the Microsoft Schools Agreement site.

Novell software

The Ministry has an agreement with Novell through to the end of April 2013. Renewal discussions are underway and an update will be released as soon as possible. To find out more, please visit the ICT Helpdesk website.

Apple software

The Ministry of Education has established new distribution arrangements for the latest Apple Mac operating system upgrade - OS X MountainLion. The software is available now. To order, go to Apple section of the Microsoft Schools Agreement site.

You can elect to get the software via web download (no cost), or via USB key (courier & key costs will be billed to your school, $45+GST per key).
