Upgrading networks independently of the School Network Upgrade Project

This section provides information for schools that have not been invited to participate in SNUP at this stage, but that still wish to proceed with a network upgrade. It contains advice on infrastructure standards, details of preferred suppliers and installers, and provides advice to schools about network upgrades.

Schools upgrading their data infrastructure can undertake this work as part of their usual property process. As noted in Section 6.10.1 of the Property handbook, schools are required to follow the network infrastructure standards established by the ministry.

The Ministry provides schools with lists of recommended switch suppliers, cabling suppliers and recommended installers who are able to provide manufacturer warranties on their work.
