Managed internet services solutions for schools
The Ministry of Education is providing state and state-integrated schools with a selection of easy to use managed internet service solutions to enable them to configure services to meet their own individual internet management requirements. The Ministry has signed contracts with selected suppliers for the provision of these solutions to schools.
What are managed internet services?
Depending on the chosen solution these services include:
- A firewall which screens all inbound and outbound traffic. This protects schools' computers and servers from outside hackers, penetrations, system scans and unauthorised breaches
- Content filtering to prevent the access of inappropriate websites
- Email filtering to prevent the sending or receiving of offensive material and oversize attachments
- Management of spam and junk emails such as chain letters, jokes, image files and screen savers
- Usage monitoring and reporting through a variety of tools.
Schools will still, as they currently do, need to cover their own internet connectivity and usage costs.
What are the solutions being offered?
Schools originally had a choice of four products. However the CA Secure Content Manager agreement has expired and all Surf Control licenses (now Websense) have been allocated to schools. Further information about these arrangements is available at the TKI helpdesk.
Schools can access either of the two products below.
