3P Learning

How do you take a curriculum resource, transform it into a cool gaming environment  and enable access to all students, everywhere, anytime? Through clever software design, innovative network architecture and distribution, state of the art hardware, relationships with global and local ISPs, learning organizations, corporate sponsors and a network of passionate teachers and ICT administrators 3P Learning created a immersive and engaging global online challenge environment that 1.5 million students accessed in one day on 4 March 2009.

AnyQuestions.co.nz

AnyQuestions.co.nz is a site that helps students develop confidence and independence when searching for information on the internet. The popularity of the site has allowed us to introduce new features including ManyAnswers/NgaWhakautuMaha which offers homework assistance for students.

Presenter: Anthea Hamlet

Anthea Hamlet is an experienced teacher who worked with school libraries for 24 years. She has been a librarian at the National Library of New Zealand for 12 years, and is a founding member of the AnyQuestions project team.

TeAra.govt.nz

TeAra.govt.nz is a comprehensive encyclopaedia of New Zealand. The extensive and growing site contains over one million words and features 10,000 photographs, film clips and sound archives to support interactive learning.

Presenter: Jock Phillips

Jock Phillips is general editor of Te Ara and was previously the chief historian. He spent 16 years teaching American and New Zealand history at Victoria University of Wellington. Jock was also the founding director of the Stout Research Centre for New Zealand studies and has authored eleven books on New Zealand history.

Presenter: Basil Keane

Basil Keane is Te Ara’s Māori Editor. With degrees in Law and Māori Studies, Basil oversees all Te Ara content from a Māori perspective, and writes on many subjects.

CourseCast

CourseCast is a suite of applications that enables educators to record learning events giving learners on-demand access to education tools outside the classroom. The application suite has been successfully used by the Waikato Institute of Technology.

Presenter: John Clayton

John Clayton has led a range of e-learning projects funded by the New Zealand government. He is currently the manager of the Emerging Technologies Centre at the Waikato Institute of Technology.

Presenter: Sarah-Jane Saravani

Sarah-Jane Saravani is manager of the Learning Hub at the Waikato Institute of Technology. Sarah-Jane develops library and information services tailored for new education environments.

NZ On Screen

Nzonscreen.com offers users access to New Zealand screen and television history. Find out how content is selected and how teachers in schools can use NZ On Screen.

Presenter: Debbie Martin

Debbie Martin is the project director for NZ On Screen. She has an extensive background in internet communications and publishing and began her career working with education resources online.

Digital New Zealand

Digital New Zealand makes it easy to find, share and use New Zealand digital resources. Working with New Zealand organisations, communities and individuals the project is working to aggregate metadata so hard-to-find content is easy to discover, use and re-use.

The Hub

The Hub is a virtual community for young people (12 to 26 years) offering discussion fora, peer-mentoring and community resources to support personal learning.

Presenter: Ross Petersen

Ross Petersen works for the ETITO industry training organisation. He developed and led the Bright Sparks initiative in schools – encouraging young people to pursue a career in the electrotechnology industry and its sectors.

Scootle

Scootle is a secure online teaching and learning environment for teachers developed by The Le@rning Federation to provide access to thousands of digital resources and learning objects. Scootle allows teachers to tag, rate and comment on resources. Students can participate using innovative easy-to-use online tools.

Presenter: Preety Agarwal

Preety Agarwal is the senior manager of Information Systems Development at the Learning Federation, an e-learning project for school curriculum content funded by the Australia and New Zealand governments.

Presenter: Helen Cooper

Helen Cooper is Senior Advisor Digital Content for the Ministry of Education, and contact liaison for The Le@rning Federation initiative.
