Families Learning Together: A resource for students and families
The Ministry's Migrant and Refugee Education ESOL Team has developed a series of booklets called Families Learning Together. These booklets are available in the following languages:
- English
- Arabic
- Somali
- Amharic
- Farsi
- Khmer
- Chinese
- Korean
- Hindi.
Having information available in their own language enables refugee and migrant families to better understand aspects of schooling in New Zealand.
The Families Learning Together booklets are an effective way of offering guidance to families on how they can assist their children to become better learners as listeners, speakers, readers and writers. The booklets also include information on schooling levels, how schools are managed, the rights and responsibilities of caregivers, attendance, fees, dealing with problems, uniforms, discipline, homework, school terms and holidays, and how parents can support their children's learning in the home.
Copies can be ordered from Down the Back of the Chair or by calling 0800 660 662.
