NCEA - Information about Downloads and Troubleshooting Guide
Most of the NCEA standards and resources hosted on this site are stored as PDF (Portable Document Format). This page answers common questions about PDF and offers advice on problems which may occur.
How do I view PDF Files?
You need to have Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your system. Acrobat reader is a free piece of software and is readily available for download at the following sites:
Adobe.com
SoftSeek.com
I already have Acrobat Reader, but I get the message `error locating object handler' when I click on the PDFs
Two solutions are offered:
1. Right-click on the download link and select 'Save Target As'.
This should bring up a standard download dialog box, from which you can save the PDF to your local machine. Once saved, the PDF can be opened from within Acrobat Reader or directly from within Windows.
2. Start Acrobat Reader. From the 'File' menu, select 'Preferences', 'General', then uncheck the "Web Browser Integration" box.
This second solution is recommended, especially if you wish to view a number of standards and activities on the site.
How do I save the PDFs?
When the PDF opens in a browser window using the Acrobat plug-in, an extra tool bar will appear, providing save, print, zoom and other viewing tools. Click the `save' button to store the PDF on your local machine. If you are viewing the PDF in a separate Acrobat window, the toolbar is available, as well as standard context menus - i.e. File / Save.
I can see the PDFs, but they are too small to read.
By default, the download links to PDFs will open in new browser windows. Maximising this window will automatically resize the viewing area of the PDF. Alternatively, the zoom tool can be used, which allows for very flexible viewing options.
