Principals’ Capability

Principals have an obligation under NAG 1 to engage with their Māori communities to enable best outcomes for Māori students.  Programmes such as The First Time Principals Induction Programme, the Principals Development and Planning Centres and the Te Mana Korero Workshops support principals to build their knowledge and capability to improve Māori student outcomes and strengthen relationships with whānau. 

The professional development programme Te Kotahitanga supports secondary teachers to build effective learning and teaching relationships with Māori students.  Whilst the principals are required to be the professional leader of the project in their schools, Te Kotahitanga is not a professional development programme for principals.
