Halls of residence/hostels
Information on halls of residence/hostel accommodation.
This is one of the most common forms of accommodation for university students.
These residences are usually located in a building or large house. You either have your own room or share a room with another student. All the rooms in the building are occupied by other students. Many residences also provide a senior student, who lives at the residence to offer support and guidance for new student residents.
Some halls of residence provide meals to their residents in a communal dining room. Other residences are self-catering and include a kitchen in each studio for students to cook their own meals.
Basic cleaning services are provided once a week, but you are expected to clean your own room.
The hostel or hall of residence is usually located on campus or within walking distance of the education provider.
Most hostels are not alcohol free even though alcohol free areas are provided; therefore it is likely that other students around you will consume alcohol, especially in the weekends.
