Who We Are

Information on the structure of the International Education division.

The International Education Division has small policy and international engagement teams based in Wellington, and a pastoral care team based in Auckland.

The policy team leads inter-agency work on achieving the goals and objectives of the Leadership Statement for International Education, together with policy on international students, sector levies, statistics, and the internationalisation of education for New Zealand students. It also provides international education policy input to work by Education New Zealand, Immigration New Zealand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and other agencies.

The international engagement team manages the government's work with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the Ministry's engagement with the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, East Asia Summit (EAS) and other multilateral agencies.

The pastoral care team administers the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.
