Contents and Liability Insurance

The Ministry of Education's Risk Management Scheme for Schools provides protection for both school contents (Board of Trustees property), and legal liability issues (including public liability). Visit the Lumley website to find out more about the Risk Management Scheme and how to become a member.

Risk Management Scheme changes

The scheme costs $8.18 per student per year, funded through quarterly deductions from your school's operational funding. All state and state-integrated schools are eligible to join the scheme.

Insurance brokers and insurance cover

The Ministry has appointed a new contents insurance broker for the Risk Management Scheme, following a formal tender process.

The new company is Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT). Please contact JLT for advice and information on contents insurance terms and cover.

Please note the scheme's liability insurance cover is still provided by Lumley. Claims are still handled by McLarens Young.

Ancillary policies arranged through Marsh, our previous broker, will continue for the term of the policy. At renewal time, we suggest you review the cover provided to ensure you are getting the right cover at the right price.

Advisory services

New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA) has been contracted by the Ministry of Education to provide industrial and advisory services for boards of trustees. They operate a confidential 0800 helpdesk and regional advisory service.

It is important that if you have a problem, that you contact that NZSTA as soon as possible for advice on the appropriate course of action.
